THE CONSORTIUM OF OVERSEAS STUDENT TEACHING

The Thomas Jefferson Institute participates in the Consortium of Overseas Student Teaching (COST) Program and has previously received student teachers from Concordia College in Wisconsin, North Eastern Michigan University, University of Alabama, Kent State University, Middle Tennessee University, and the University of Georgia. The student teacher may choose to practice at any grade level (K-12) in our school. One student teacher taught part time at the elementary level and part at the junior high school level. Others have taught exclusively at one level.

We arrange for the student teachers to stay in the home of one of our staff members or a family from our school where she or he receives the hospitality only offered from a home environment, in addition to room, board and transportation to and from work for about $400 dollars per month. In this way we can guarantee the student teacher a safe and pleasant environment during his or her stay in Mexico.

During their free time they were able to visit many historical and cultural sights of interest in Mexico including the pyramids, the Great Temple, the Floating Gardens, the Anthropology Museum, the History Museum, the Folklore Ballet, and many other sights outside Mexico City, including some of the popular beaches of Mexico, which are within driving distance.

Each year we receive student teachers from universities (private or state) who wish to do their student teaching
in an international bilingual/bicultural Spanish/English setting.

Everyone at school receives our visitors warmly and deep and lasting friendships often

develop during their stay
in Mexico. The student teacher may also improve his or her Spanish and learn a lot about Mexican culture and history. Past experiences with this program have been very positive for everyone involved.

Please consider the Thomas Jefferson Institute as a possible choice for
your student teachers. We are convinced that we can offer your student teachers a unique learning experience during their student teaching semester. If necessary, we would be more than happy to host you or someone else from your staff to inspect our credentials and school installations. We can also supply you with recommendations from other institutions in the United States who have had successful experiences
with us.
