Xólotl Project: Science, culture and awareness from the heart of ITJ-ZE

18-05-2025

ITJ-ZE's Xolotl Project connects students with science, culture and conservation through the care of salamanders, promoting experiential learning and respect for life.

The Xólotl Project, promoted by the ITJ Emerald Zone science academy, is an educational initiative that unites science, culture and environmental awareness. Through the care of salamanders - Leonardo, Rafael, Miguel Ángel and Donatello - students experience active learning about biodiversity, ecosystems and Mexican identity.

The salamanders live in a specially conditioned space called ‘ajolotario’, which becomes a living classroom and a catalyst for multiple learning experiences. The project also invites families to join in at home, encouraging community participation and scientific thinking from an early age.

This effort reflects the vision of a school connected to the world, which learns by caring and teaching from the heart.
