Last Friday, September 15, our ITJ Palomar campus was filled with green, white, and red in celebration of Mexico’s Independence Day. Students and teachers from all grades experienced this day with respect, excitement, and Mexican pride.

Everything began with our Elementary Flag Ceremony, in which the honor guard—formed by Alessandra, Alina, Julieta M., Julieta G., Daniela, Mía, and Mariangela—paraded our flag with honor through the central courtyard. Then it was time to sing the national anthem, and thanks to each of our students, it echoed proudly through the heart of the school. Miss Clau continued with the traditional “Grito de Independencia,” and we closed the ceremony on a high note with the Jarabe Tapatío, enjoying the rope performance by our 3rd-grade student, Ricardo Meza.

Next came the turn of our youngest students, who also attended their Flag Ceremony with their honor guard formed by Salvador, Michel, Arturo, Natalia, and Ivanna. The Preschool students celebrated with a tribute to our national heroes, dressing up as them and performing some of their famous quotes for the entire community. The ceremony concluded with our second “Grito de Independencia,” led by Miss Marijo, director of the section.

The day didn’t end there—our Seniors and the STUCO (Student Council) committee organized several activities so that the entire ITJ community could continue celebrating in full color for the rest of the day. With games like lotería, musical chairs, ring toss, “civil registry”/friendship booth, sack races, and more, they ensured laughter and joy never stopped.

Of course, the traditional Mexican food couldn’t be missing, and our students contributed wonderfully by preparing different stands offering a variety of Mexican candies, desserts, drinks, and everything a true Mexican loves to enjoy.

After so much singing, playing, and laughing, the day wrapped up with the third and final “Grito de Independencia,” carried out by our 12th-grade students. And this marked the end of another great ITJ day.
