KiVa, the world’s number one international anti-bullying programme, now at ITJ Valle Real!

Training sessions, workshops and conferences will be held for the entire school community, giving everyone the tools to prevent and address bullying confidently.

This new 2023-2024 school year, ITJ Valle Real has implemented KiVa, the world’s leading anti-bullying programme. Training sessions, workshops and conferences will be held for the entire school community, giving everyone the tools to prevent and address bullying confidently.

KiVa is a prestigious, evidence-based programme developed at the University of Turku, Finland, with support from the Ministry of Education and Culture. It’s used in countries like Switzerland, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, France, Italy and Spain, and is the most studied anti-bullying programme in the world.

KiVa’s goal is clear: reduce bullying cases through three key actions:

  • Train teachers with practical strategies, methods and tools to prevent, intervene and follow up on bullying cases.
  • Help students recognise their own feelings and those of their peers, strengthening their values to face bullying.
  • Provide parents with information and guidelines to identify bullying and play a key role in school-home communication.

KiVa’s pillars:
The programme is built on three basic principles:

  1. Prevention: Stop bullying before it starts. KiVa prevents bullying through school-wide actions for all students. Lessons and online games introduce students to the programme and are concrete examples of these actions.
  2. Intervention: Tools to stop bullying. KiVa’s intervention actions target children and teens involved in bullying situations. The goal is to give schools and students solution-focused tools to end bullying.
  3. Monitoring: KiVa offers tools to track bullying in schools through annual online surveys for students and staff. This feedback gives schools the information and tools they need to improve their anti-bullying work.

At ITJ Valle Real, we’ve already held several teacher training sessions, and throughout the school year, KiVa will be fully integrated into our educational plan.

The first parent conference at ITJ Valle Real will take place on Thursday, 31 August, both in person at school and online. We believe it’s essential for parents to learn about this new programme and gain useful tools to address bullying with their children. We want parents to be part of the programme’s learning and understanding.

Always safe. Always happy. Always learning.
