These days, technology is everywhere – and it’s time to use it to our advantage. It’s normal to feel a bit lost about how to use tech safely and effectively. That’s why we’re sharing practical tips to help you make technology work for you and your child.

Technology is part of our daily lives. Think about the devices we use to communicate, get information or manage tasks. Using tech tools helps us work smarter, save time and get answers from virtual assistants any time of day.

When it comes to introducing technology to children aged six to twelve, the conversation is all about finding balance – making the most of the benefits while managing the risks.

Tech can help your child reinforce what they learn at school, making lessons more engaging. It can spark creativity with editing and design programmes. It’s also a window to the world, letting your child explore faraway places or fascinating facts about the universe.

To get the most out of technology with your child, focus on these areas:

Learn and play. Use games to help your child connect with school subjects like maths, English or reading.

Find answers and ask new questions. You won’t always have every answer, so use trusted apps or websites to search for solutions together.

Explore and discover. Invite your child to discover new places, cultures and communities around the world – and dream big.

When your child uses technology for these activities, your role is to guide and join in. Get involved, ask questions and help them dig deeper. Being present strengthens your relationship and builds trust when using technology.

Here are some sites to explore with your child: Khan Academy offers content by grade level, with exercises and videos on different school subjects. Scratch is great for sparking interest in science, technology, engineering and maths, letting children create with programming at different levels. National Geographic Kids is known for documentaries and information about the environment, geography, cultures, community and science – it sparks curiosity and appreciation for the natural world.

In today’s sea of information, it’s essential to talk about digital safety. This is a must-have conversation with your child, so they know not to share personal information, spot inappropriate sites, recognise trusted sources like educational institutions or well-known organisations, and filter what they find using effective search engines.

To do this, set clear, simple rules together – don’t just ban things. Make rules as a team, set screen time limits and use devices with a clear purpose.

Remember, technology is a tool, not a substitute. Preparing your child for the future is one of our priorities, because the world is always changing and we want your child to grow up happy and safe. Technology is a powerful ally and a key part of the whole-child development we care about.

Think of technology as an educational adventure for the whole family. Learning together opens doors for your child to explore, discover and go further.
